Common questions
Does a plumber need a state licence in Florida?
Yes. Plumbing contracting is a licensed trade under Chapter 489, Florida Statutes. The contractor must hold a state certification (CFC, valid statewide) or a registration (RF, valid only where it was issued). Employees of a licensed company work under the company's licence.
What is the difference between CFC and RF?
CFC is a Certified Plumbing Contractor, who holds a state certificate and may contract anywhere in Florida. RF is a Registered Plumbing Contractor, who qualified through a local jurisdiction and may contract only in the jurisdictions where the registration is valid.
Must a contractor show a licence number?
Yes. Section 489.119, Florida Statutes, says the registration or certification number must appear in each offer of services, bid, contract or advertisement, in any medium. If a plumber will not give you a number, treat that as a reason to stop.
What does “board discipline on record” mean?
It means the Construction Industry Licensing Board's published discipline files list at least one final action (or Recovery Fund action) against that licence number since fiscal year 2021-22. We show each entry's date, case number and listed actions exactly as DBPR publishes them. It is a public record, not our opinion.
Why is there no phone number for some plumbers?
The state licence file does not include phone numbers. We list the address of record DBPR publishes; plumbers who claim their listing can add a phone number and description.
Is this site run by the state?
No. Florida Plumber Check is an independent directory compiled from DBPR's public licence and discipline files. The official lookup is DBPR's Verify a License page at myfloridalicense.com.
